*Bengal Tiger-Information*
In the mid 1900's there were 100,000 tigers nation -wide.Around that time in India,there were about 40,000 estimated.
In 1964 that amount dropped to a staggering 4,000 in India alone.In 1972 it was sadly confirmed India had only 2,000 tigers left.Then the population did rise after that for awhile.
In 1989 the nation-wide total was 4,334.Due to out of control poaching. In 1994 a new estimation showed only 3,750-4,500 tigers nation-wide. Geographic locations are north,north east,central to eastern areas of India.
*Indo Chinese Tiger-Information*
- E.Burma thru south east Asia to Vietnam has about 1,050-1,750-estimated-in 1993.
- Thailand about 250-estimated-1987-1991.
- The Malaysian Wildlife Dept.,estimated 600-650 Indo-Chinese Tigers-in 1994.
*Amoy Tiger-South China Tiger-Info*
- Mid 1900's-4,000 were estimated.
- 3,000 Amoy Tigers were killed within the past 30 years.
- Today the total population,in the wild is 30-80 Amoy Tigers.
- Today the captive population,is 50 Amoy Tigers.
*Sumatran Tiger-Information*
- The Sumatran Tigers world-wide population is about 400-500-estimated-1992.
- 400 in Sumatra-national parks,etc.
- 100 are scattered in other areas around Sumatra.
*White Tiger-Information*
The last white tiger kill was in India in 1958. Fewer than 12 have been spotted in India for 100 years. In 1990 it was estimated all but 150-170 were left nation-wide.(in zoo's)
- India has 45-50 white tigers.
- Japan has about 2-5 white tigers.
- USA has 85-90 white tigers.
- UK has 10-15 white tigers.
- Un-known locations 8-10 white tigers.
Some great news for white tigers.Baby cubs were born in 2 different zoo's. Jan.6-2003-Buenos Aires,Argentina-zoo: A white tigress had 6 cubs.A year and 1/2 prior to that she had 3 cubs. AtNatural Bridge Zoo,Virginia,a white tigress had 2 cubs.
Good new about the cubs,but sad news for the many tigers who lost their lives in the 1900's,and to this day,are still being slaughtered.
Years ago,demand for fur played a major role,in the out come of the tigers fate. Today illegal poaching,for the black market killing endangered tigers for bones,skin and body parts,are the top dollar reason for their slaughter.
These illegal poachings in the end,may very well finish off the remaining 5 tiger sub-species that were in the wild. What will be left are the ones in zoos and protected parks. Sad,but true.
*Cheetah-Information*
- The largest cheetah population,is in Namibia which has 2,500.
- Botswana,Zimbabwe,S.Africa,Kenya & Tanzania has small populations un-known.
- Iran has about 250.
- The total estimation,is not more than 12,000 world- wide.
